Afghanistan holds a rather singular place in my personal and photographic life. I spent 6 months in 2003 as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) with the 3eRPIMa of Carcassonne as a military and photographer. This country was already arousing my curiosity even before I saw it. The media relayed the actions of Major Massoud, then known as the "Panshir Lion". On the photography side, who does not remember the Afghan girl on the cover of the national geographic magazine? The photographer Steve McCurry had done it in 1984. I dreamed of walking in the footsteps of these men, to cross the time of a photo my little Afghan girl and to meet the Afghan people. Face Afghans is just a sample of this extraordinary journey to improbable and deeply human encounters.
